Safety Tips
Electricity
- Remember that electricity and water don't mix!
- Unplug the toaster before you unstick your bread.
- Pull electrical cords out of the outlet by the plug not the cord.
- Keep fingers and other objects (other than an electrical plug) out of electrical outlets.
- Never touch anything electrical with wet hands.
- Do not use radios, hairdryers, or any other electrical appliance near water.
- Stay away from trees, poles or towers that are close to power lines.
- Look up and be aware of overhead wires before you climb a tree or fly a kite.
- Stay clear of all outdoor electrical equipment.
- If you see downed power lines, do not go near them and don't touch anything close to them. Call for help!
Water
- Remember that electricity and water don't mix!
- Always wear a life jacket when you are in any watercraft.
- Pay attention to all signs and warnings.
- Never swim alone.
- Learn how to swim by a qualified swimming instructor.
- Beware of fast-moving water currents.
- Check the water depth before you dive.
- Get to know some life-saving techniques.
- Keep a clear head in any emergency situation.
